Select by Circle (Buffering)

A map tool that will return all features within a specified distance of a selected feature on the map. Use this feature when you are interested in finding a set of features within a certain distance of a selected feature.

Steps for buffering:

  • The Buffer functionality will return a set of features within a given distance of an already selected feature. The first step is to ensure that you have a feature selected that you want to buffer around. Use the 'Select By Point' tool to select the feature you wish to buffer.
  • Click the Buffer button in the Tools pane.
  • Type the radius of the buffer (distance in feet) you wish to buffer in the textbox.
  • Click 'Go' to perform the buffer. The map will be refreshed and all features of the active layer that fall within the specified distance of the initially selected feature will be selected.

Note:

The functionality of this feature depends on the active layer. The default active layer is 'Parcels'; selecting features on the map by using Select By Circle will select 'Parcel' features.
